Evergreen Pete takes prize
CYCLING Pete Wilson was the sole Bath Cycling Club representative in the West London Cycling Association 30-mile time trial in the Farnham and Alton area but returned home with the fastest veteran’s prize.
The evergreen 76-year-old also set a new West Veteran Time Trials Association record with his superb time of 1hr 18mins 26secs.
Julian Jenkinson (Utag/Yamaha. com team) triumphed in 1:01:53 and was followed by Aaron Stanton (VC St Rapahael, 1:02:51) and Neil Dwyer (Lewes Wanderers CC, 1:02:52).
Bath’s Rob Pears pipped Cavalier Cycling Club’s Dave Kiddell to the post when Somer Valley Cycling Club hosted its gruelling 21- mile hilly time trial on Sunday.
Pears won by two seconds in a time of 48:51. Dursley Road Club’s Derek Smetham finished third in 49:36.
Bath’s first evening event of the summer on the Frome bypass was also won by the in-form Pears.
