HOSTEL COLONIAL BUENOS AIRES – CLICK PORTEÑO – POST # 6

Every day, about 10 or 15 pictures (sometimes are more) of Buenos Aires are published in my blog called Hostel Colonial Buenos Aires running on Tumblr. 4400 published photos of this magnificent city. Incredible night and day views. Neighborhoods of Buenos Aires, intimate places, bars, cafés, street art, moments of everyday life, images of yesterday and today, advertising, vintage things, all images are used to build part of the identity of Buenos Aires in a “Click Porteño“.

These images are mine, in my other blog of Buenos Aires, you can see works of many other amateur and professional photographers. For now it is only an invitation to look, the idea is that at least once in their life, come to Buenos Aires, in Hostel Colonial we are waiting for you.

All publications are posted on Twitter, Tumblr and Facebook, you can follow us on these social networks. In the right column are the shortcut links.

HOSTEL COLONIAL BUENOS AIRES – 2 YEARS USING TWITTER

On April 17 th., 2007 I opened my account on Twitter, it has been 2 years. I have no doubt that Hostel Colonial Buenos Aires was the first hostel in the world have an account on Twitter. Almost without realizing was joined followers and friends, slowly the network was expanded, there were very few in fact and in my case is not yet understood the importance and correct use of a micro-blogging platform like Twitter.
I like Twitter, I also like Blip.fm, both the social networks that are mostly used over Facebook, Orkut, Plurk, Jaiku and Pownce (no longer exists today).
Virtual friends became real friends. Some followers (mostly Argentines, we are First World. Do you remember? We find it too look inwards.) ceased to follow me, is almost a natural condition.
Every day there are more events related to Twitter in Buenos Aires, this is my debt, I could not go to anyone else. The network is vast and the result is absolutely positive.
Has been so long since we Blog de Viajes, the Best Spanish Language Blog, published “A hostel in Buenos Aires was using Twitter“, learning time, until they came to be finalists in the Lonely Planet 2009 Travel Blogger AwardsBest Micro-blogging.
In the middle, the people, the most important thing in this way it has to transcend the virtual space of 140 characters, the ones who know, the ones who I know. To all, thanks. Jorge

HOSTEL COLONIAL BUENOS AIRES – THE 2008 SUMMARY, BLOGGING, NETWORKS, AWARDS, A VERY HARD WORK

It´s strange to do a balance in these times of crisis and come to the conclusion that despite of everything, 2008 was a great year to the Hostel Colonial.
With no doubts, this was the year of the consolidation of the positioning that I´ve been working in the last days, a strategy that have increased our annual guests percentage, that came to a 60% average per year, in a market like Buenos Aires, where the offers have increased exponentially and the demand tends to retract.
Obviously, the money invested was $0, which potentialize the success of our job. Now, I actually think that the case of the Hostel Colonial should be studied, analized and considered as a reference in the Web 2.0 for this type of accommodation, but, of course, the web is a giant and the Hostel Colonial is too small.
The work done with the social networks also was the consolidation of a effort, the wish and the sinergy generated in Twitter, Blip.fm (the great revelation), Orkut (our main access to Brazil), Facebook and Plurk.
This blog was completely redesigned and I really made tiring trips by Buenos Aires to shot almost 400 published images and more than 1000 that were discarded, all of them with the IPhone Camera Pro, a very good software for this gadget, essential for a modern traveler. For the second consecutive year, we won the Blogger´s Choice Awards, an effort with the guys from the hostel staff, a blogging strategy there´s a marketing one that helps to increase the traffic in almost the double (about 3000 unique visitors month) and convert the Hostel Colonial in a 2.0 trademark. SEO has to agree with me, see here.
I´ve opened an account in MySpace and will begin to work on it very soon, and if we had to be in Clarín Blogs, the most important journal in Argentina, there is also a space for the Hostel Colonial.
We´re still the only hostel in the world on the T-List and day by day we´re improving our presence in Tumblr and Twitter, the microblogging databases that I like the most. To finish and close the cycle of 2008, our new blog is already online and being adjusted. It was developed in WordPress and represents a great challenge for 2009, at least in these virtual environments, with no doubts, a great year.
Regards and prosperity. Jorge Ferrari, from the Hostel Colonial, Buenos Aires, Argentina, South America.

Saludos e prosperidade. Jorge Ferrari, desde o Hostel Colonial, Buenos Aires, Argentina, América do Sul.

HOSTEL COLONIAL – SOCIAL NETWORKS – THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE AVATAR

It´s been almost 2 years since I´ve created my account in Twitter, the first social network I´ve logged in from the Hostel Colonial and I still think that little by little, we´re getting out of the bubble that represents the Internet and taking back the lost spaces in the streets of Buenos Aires.
In every street of this world, there are sensations, fellings, experiences. Behind each avatar there are people, sinergy, empathy, there´s a necessity of creating, generating something. Let´s set an aim for 2009: Convert the avatar in people.

HOSTEL COLONIAL BUENOS AIRES INTRODUCE OUR BLOGWEB ON WORDPRESS

Why all the work with every day that I had to get into this? The blog takes work, the blogs of the restaurants, too. Managing restaurants is a very hard work. Being present in different social networks takes a lot of time. Well, and doesn´t end here, however, be a father of three little kids and husband, is also a great job, very gratifying indeed.
It was necessary to add a new task and a new challenge? Yes, definitely. Why not? The technology, communication and marketing are changing continuously and at a incredible speed. Ok, will wonder what I´m talking about?
Simply a new communication tool (one more …) I’d like to call blogweb, as a matter of relevance. A great work done by Alejandro Velazquez , a turning point between an old web page, the blog on Blogger (this blog!!), the microblog on Tumblr and my introduction as editor in the Wordpress world.
Why so many developments for a hostel? Because I believe that this would be doing all things. Business are business, but it’s nothing if one doesn´t take risks, if it doesn´t do things with passion.
No matter the size of my business, no matter the money, if one day one of my kids can say – My dad was the one who introduced me to the Web 4.0. A major objective. That’s going to live every time, that’s what I intend for my life and Hostel Colonial is part of that.
Evolution, and achieves the best results. I don´t know how many hostels do a job like this. I have the perception that this hostel, from here, from Buenos Aires, will be a major reference (I think it´s). That’s all for now, will soon be online the new project, you can see a breakthrough here.
As you know, in a few days another site where they read about what happens in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Hostel Colonial, backpacking and the world of low-cost travel.

HOSTEL COLONIAL BUENOS AIRES IN BLIP.FM – FEEL THE MUSIC ON LINE

Blip.fm is just like Twitter(it has 10 extra keys to write, I don´t think there will be another mobile user with this feature) specially adapted to music. The intention is showing to the others what you are listening to right now, but more than it, you got the option of discovering what the other users are listening in the same time as you, and also find different versions or covers of the same song.
The interface is very similar to Twitter´s and it also allows you to add your favorite users and then, create a community. Lots of favorite Dj´s are in Blip.fm, because the invitation to the network came from a Twitter user. It is also possible to upload and programme your MP3 files. In the lateral, there is a sort of keyboard, for example, to turn up the volume you type the (+) key, to turn it down, you press(-),to play/pause press the space bar, to get foward or back in the playlist you can use the sets (? o ? respectively). With the “p” key, the playlist is refreshed.
As it says in their own description:
“Get a Blip by user ID, or for multiple user IDs. Get the most recent Blips for a user, sequentially listed by most recent. Create your customized music station with Blip.fm. Be your own DJ and then share your station with your friends, or have your friends program your station for you. Share your musical interests with millions.”
The Hostel Colonial is already on Blip.fm, all of you guys can listen to our songs by this link:
Hostel Colonial DJ
