Desde hace algunos días y como ocurrió también en 2008, todo el mundo volvió a hablar de Harrod´s en Buenos Aires, una de las más bellas propiedades que aún conserva la ciudad. El motivo no es su siempre inminente reapertura como tienda, sino que es una de las sedes del Festival y Mundial de Tango de Buenos Aires 2009, como he escrito en este y en mis otros blogs.
Ubicada en la calle Florida, a metros de Galerías Pacífico, con salidas por las calle San Martín y la Avenida Córdoba (queda a sólo 2 cuadras de Hostel Colonial) forma parte de la historia de Buenos Aires y este es un pequeño resumen:
Harrod´s, ayer, el Mundial de Tango y hoy
La tienda Harrod’s fue inaugurada el 31 de marzo de 1914, en el marco de las grandes tiendas de Buenos Aires que abrieron sus puertas entre 1905 y 1915 (Gath & Chaves, Las Filipinas y El Niño Argentino).
La esquina de Córdoba y Florida fue el símbolo de la belle époque porteña. De muy pequeño, mi bisabuelo solía llevarme a la peluquería, a la calesita que funcionaba en el lugar y fué mi primer contacto con juguetes imposibles (por su precio y por su procedencia).
Empezó su decadencia en los 90 con la apertura de los shopping. Fue cerrando piso por piso, hasta que en el 98 bajó la persiana definitivamente.
El edificio está siendo refaccionado respetando su arquitectura original. Ya recuperaron la planta baja (hay 2 bares excepcionales, lo sabrán aquellos que pasaron por allí estos días) casi como era cuando sus percheros hacían las tapas de las revistas de moda, pero con toques modernos. En el último piso instalaron un taller de carpinteros y tapiceros que repararon 200 muebles que habían quedado en los galpones.
En algún momento Harrod´s volverá a ser lo que era: una tienda departamental en la que se podrá comprar objetos y moda de las mejores marcas. Queda cerquita, hoy se vibra con el Tango en sus miles de metros cuadrados, quizás sea así para siempre.
Buenos Aires se merece un lugar así, yo voy a estar y con la complicidad del nonno Nello, una vez más, me pueda robar la sortija.

Serbia, which is so close to Bosnia where I´ve been in 2001, a reservation for a full month stay. After a couple of weeks, appeared a very gentle and tall young women, about 27 years old, it was obvious that we would become friends.
She adores “
Porteñoland” and told me all the time “
your city is beautiful”, she always runs to
Tango lessons for that’s why she came here, her busy schedule makes her comes and go, before going to lessons she ask for coffee…. where is the coffee?!…., and yes like many of us, a coffee addicted, you could get a nice coffee whenever you wan at the
Hostel Colonial Buenos Aires.
Many people come to
Buenos Aires for the same reason, learning or improving
Tango. I just noticed that
Tango lessons in Buenos Aires are complete, not only will they prepare you for the dancing in itself, but you also get aware of life in times and history. So according to époques you get several types and tendencies of
Tango.

Those events will take place the next Friday in Buenos Aires, as the city will also be the “Capital of Tango” from August 14th until 31st.
The Tango Festival as an event that is held every year has the purpose of the recovery and enhancement of the genre heritage as a typical porteño practice. It will be held in Harrod´s Shops (2 blocks walking from the Hostel Colonial) Tango Porteño (5 blocks walking from the Hostel Colonial) Konex City, Avenida Theater, San Martin Theater and the Galileo Galilei Planetarium.
Tango Dance Championship: established by the City of Buenos Aires in order to celebrate Tango and choose the best Tango stage dancers from all over the world.
The audience will enjoy scenes of milongas, exhibitions, dance shows, free themes classes…The finals on Monday 31st at the Luna Park Stadium (4 blocks walking from the Hostel Colonial)
