Completed a new edition of Blogger’s Choice Awards. I really thought the competition was abandoned, but was not well. As in 2007 and 2008, involved with this blog in the category Best Travel Blog. In those years consecutively won the category and even caused some controversy. In the 2009 edition we achieved the second place in the voting. I think that was a good and hard work. Hostel Colonial Buenos Aires was there again.
In 2008 I discussed with
Gary Arndt, author of the
blog Everything Everywhere (winner of the 2009 edition) about who should have been the winner and
blah, blah, blah. Indeed, a minor discussion, everyone has clearly defined its objectives and decisions, some are blogging, other businesses, I do two things.
We also got nominations and votes in the category “
Worst Blog of All Time“, coincidentally, all from the city of Mexicali, a city of the author of the
blog that won
third place, who apologized.
Anyway, I guess we’re all winners, we have the possibility that many people know our work. I personally like the result, I’m also in 2009 having achieved the place
#3 in the
2009 Lonely Planet Travel Blogger Awards –
Category Microblogging (
twitter.com/ HostelColonial).
I only have a few questions to answer:
Is this a travel blog? Yes, it is.Is this a hostel blog? Yes it is.But, fundamentally, is a blog from the city of Buenos Aires.1150 posts written since 2005 in this
blog and my
blog running in
#WP, 9500 images posted in my
Tumblelog, I have no doubt,
Hostel Colonial, was pioneer in
Web 2.0, I invite you to read my blogs, but have thought about staying in a five star hotel, will love
Buenos Aires, I know.

It´s strange to do a balance in these times of crisis and come to the conclusion that despite of everything, 2008 was a great year to the Hostel Colonial.
With no doubts, this was the year of the consolidation of the positioning that I´ve been working in the last days, a strategy that have increased our annual guests percentage, that came to a 60% average per year, in a market like Buenos Aires, where the offers have increased exponentially and the demand tends to retract.
Obviously, the money invested was $0, which potentialize the success of our job. Now, I actually think that the case of the
Hostel Colonial should be studied, analized and considered as a reference in the
Web 2.0 for this type of
accommodation, but, of course, the web is a giant and the
Hostel Colonial is too small.
The work done with the
social networks also was the consolidation of a effort, the wish and the sinergy generated in
Twitter,
Blip.fm (the great revelation),
Orkut (our main access to Brazil),
Facebook and
Plurk.
This
blog was completely redesigned and I really made tiring trips by
Buenos Aires to shot almost 400 published images and more than 1000 that were discarded, all of them with the
IPhone Camera Pro, a very good software for this gadget, essential for a
modern traveler. For the second consecutive year, we won the
Blogger´s Choice Awards, an effort with the guys from the
hostel staff, a
blogging strategy there´s a marketing one that helps to increase the traffic in almost the double (about 3000 unique visitors month) and convert the
Hostel Colonial in a 2.0 trademark.
SEO has to agree with me, see
here.
I´ve opened an account in
MySpace and will begin to work on it very soon, and if we had to be in
Clarín Blogs, the most important journal in
Argentina, there is also a space for the
Hostel Colonial.
We´re still the only hostel in the world on the
T-List and day by day we´re improving our presence in
Tumblr and Twitter, the
microblogging databases that I like the most. To finish and close the cycle of 2008, our new
blog is already online and being adjusted. It was developed in
WordPress and represents a great challenge for 2009, at least in these virtual environments, with no doubts, a great year.
Regards and prosperity. Jorge Ferrari, from the
Hostel Colonial,
Buenos Aires,
Argentina,
South America.
Saludos e prosperidade. Jorge Ferrari, desde o Hostel Colonial, Buenos Aires, Argentina, América do Sul.

I think that the view and review of travelers is crucial to receive an international award.
I will not talk about this blog, which won the Best Travel Blog at Blogger´s Choice Awards 2008, read two posts before for this.
For the second consecutive year, the city of Buenos Aires was chosen the best in the continent by the readers of the prestigious magazine Condé Nast Traveler.
The city earned a rating of 82.2 / 100 points, remains the Argentine capital the first in a list that includes Vancouver (Canadá), San Miguel de Allende (México), Cuzco (Perú) Río de Janeiro (Brazil) and others. The U.S.A. cities competing in another category.
The readers/travelers, analyzed in each case, cultural diversity, gastronomic proposals, the treatment received by tourists, the hotels and commercial offers and the relationship between two variables: price / quality.

Today is Sunday, and actually I got up earlier than usual. In Buenos Aires, and some provinces of Argentina we have had to advance the clock 1 hour, to make better use of daylight and save energy. Ok, this added to the excitement of my children by handing gifts to his mom, today´s celebrated here the Mother’s Day and at 6:00 A.M. -Hey Dad, wake up!!!
8:00 A.M., we have breakfast, turn on the computer, Internet and, Voila!! The
Hostel Colonial Blog, this, again as in the 2007 edition has won the category
Best Travel Blog in
Blogger´s Choice Awards.

Joy for the hard work done in conjunction with the hostel staff. An idea that takes hold: “The world needs to know Buenos Aires, Argentina“.
Satisfaction with the good marketing campaign conducted for the blog and for the hostel, whose only investment has been the time spent in carrying it out.
Thanks to all the friends of
social networks like
Twitter,
Orkut and
Plurk who voted especially, to
travel blogs authors like Guido,
Happy Hotelier author, we also have voted.
I can´t forget to the real-world networks, all those backpackers and independent travelers who visit us every year and fly up to 36 hours from Israel or fly up to 12 hours from Madrid or Paris, or fly up to 4 hours from Sao Paulo, Brazil to stay again in Hostel Colonial. Thank you all!!!
I honestly don´t think that this blog is the best, it´s only for a community.
Only is the best blog I can do with the limited and valuable time available. I´m not a full time blogger. My job is to lead this foodservice company, from which the hostel is a business unit.
In conclusion, I believe that the two main objectives of the blog are fulfilled with 100% effectiveness and make it a symbiotic: Buenos Aires+Hostel Colonial= Hostel Buenos Aires.
Ladies and gentlemen, it’s fame, now we are on the prestige, remember, this isn´t just the blog of a hostel, is a real blog of Buenos Aires, my city.

This blog was created using local humor, which was used as a platform to create a marketing campaign “0” cost with excellent results and that today has taken its own way, with faithful followers and we could call it Hostel Colonial B-Side.
The challenge for 2008 will work, work and more work, looking interrelate web and blog based on Hostel Colonial as tourist services company whose business purpose is the lodging sale and capitalize on the work done in social networks, to realize a participatory blog . We have a year to achieve. Walk this way, Hostel Colonial Blog is definitely Web 2.0.
Happy New Year.
